FAQ:  Abcess

Oral Surgery Resources

Question:
I had an abcessed tooth this year and a different one 2 years ago. I had them both pulled. How do I keep from getting another one? ...Sandy in IL

Answer:
Sandy, visit your dentist every 6 months. Make sure he/she gets adequate X-Rays and takes their time diagnosing your needs. I see a lot of neglect today, not only attributable to patient delays but also due to the economics of dental practices.

Insist on quality care, if your finances allow it. If you have insurance please realize that HMOs and PPOs do not allow your dentist to spend any quality time with you. If you are a cash patient, then budget your money for medical and dental care. Most people don't do this and that's where a lot of problems start happening.
