My Xray shows a darder area at the bottom root of #14 I think I have had this for 12 yrars and it has never been a problem and no pain, is this possible? ...Trguson in SD

Answer:
Yes, it's most likely a "residual root cyst", an empty space from a previous infection that didn't fill in with bone.

You should have it x-rayed once a year and compare to see if it's growing. Worst case scenario, it may be something more dangerous like cancer, but I doubt it.

These are very common, and it could stay there for a long time without getting bigger or smaller. Just observe it, if you want. My recommendation is that you get a second opinion, if you want to.
