If the jaw and cheek is swollen pain around eyes is there anything I can do till Tuesday when the dentist opens. I just started taking amoxcillian 500mg. 3x's a day also motrin every 4 hrs. ...Sam in FL
Answer:
Sam, an abscessed tooth with swelling around the eye is a potentially dangerous situation. The infection can spread to the brain! If taking the antibiotic seems to be controlling the infection and the swelling is decreasing perhaps you can wait.
You need to have had the antiobiotic on board for at least 48 hours before you see any results. My recommendation would be to see a dentist as soon as possible and not wait until Tuesday.
Better to err on the side of caution. I am sure you can find a dentist that would be available over the Memorial Day weekend.
