Dental Abcess Ask The Dentist James Sanderson

Question:
I have had four root canals over the past ten years, all of them in my top front teeth. My current dentist took X-rays and couldn't find anything wrong but I have been having severe pain in my face from my teeth all the way up to my eye.

It just feels like the original abcessed tooth is to blame for this. Does this make sense? I need to find out something because I'm killing myself with ibuprofen. ...Visitor from Mississippi

Answer:
That is a difficult position to be in.

If your dentist could not find anything wrong the last time you were seen then I would ask to be seen again. If you are comfortable with your relationship with your dentist then I woudl ask for their help in finding someone who might be able to help you.

Yes teeth can need to be retreated and that may be your problem or you may have a crack somewhere that may mean that you might lose the tooth. Get back with the dentist.

One thing that has helped me in these kinds of problems is the use of digital radiograophs. With the digital radiographs sometimes we can see things that I could not "see" on regular radiographs.
