Question:
Inflammation - Itchy tissue next to implant: I had a front implant and crown put in two years ago.
Since then I have an inflammation - scratchy feeling around and near the gumline of the back of the tooth. The roof of my mouth feels raw and scratchy too.
I have been back to the dentist and implant doctor, and can't figure out what is the problem. There are no pockets and the gumline around the tooth has been irrigated many times.
The implant is Titantium and the crown is supposely a Procera. Can't figure this out. ... Visitor from NY
Answer:
Allergies to Titanium, according to recent research, can occur for approximately five percent (5%) of dental patients.
Finding an allergist who has experience in evaluating titanium allergies may be difficult to find locally, so you may want to consider contacting the Melisa Foundation.
The Melisa Test is reportedly used world wide by dentists and physicians to evaluate a variety of implant materials commonly used in dentistry and other types of medical implant devices.
The symptoms you are describing could be an allergy to the titanium. Check out the site and let your dentist and the person who placed the implant know. It may be worth having the testing done.
