Ask the Dentist about Bleeding Gums Corinne Scalzitti Question:
Gums: My gums are blackish and bleeds when I brush.. Can yall tell me what's goin on? ...Visitor from TX

Answer:
Bleeding gums are almost always a sign of infection. Healthy gums don't bleed.

You might want to make an appointment for a checkup and cleaning to include a reading of "pockets", which is the space between where your gums look like they attach to the teeth and where they actually attach. This is like a little turtleneck collar between the gum and the tooth.

If the tissue is inflamed, a cleaning or deep cleaning will usually begin to heal the infection. Good home care to include brushing and flossing will also help.

The black color might be from medications that you are taking. It is difficult to tell what is going on without seeing your situation.
