Question:
I have had two bone grafting procedures.
The graft material was from a cow. Both times following the procedure I get into extreme pain.
Which is not the usual follow up.
Can I be allergic to the grafting material?...Visitor from PA
Answer:
It would be hard to imagine a circumstance where your were allergic to the graft material.
Grafting products are processed extensively and is essentially inert.
I would guess the pain comes from the amount of tissue retraction that is being done to visualize the area.
If you have a sense of swelling and/or a tingling numb feeling in the surgical area, that could be causing the pain.
Hopefully, the two grafts have now provided sufficient bone volume and you can move ahead with treatment.
