Question:
Lower jaw bone worn down: I'm currently wearing upper and lower dentures and my lower gums have worn down to hardly any bone.
My dentist, after xrays said that there is nothing he could do. Do I have any options being I am a 69 year old male with many, many health issues? ... Visitor from MD
Answer:
There are ways to augment the bone in your jaw to permit better retention of a denture and for implant placement.
One such procedure could involve taking bone from your chin (chin block graft), another part of your jaw (ramus graft), a rib or your hip.
However, considering your medical history I do not know if it would be wise. I would consult with an oral surgeon or dentist with extensive bone grafting experience to see if you could medically be a candidate.
