Question:
Jawbone infection: One year ago I had top molars removed, teeth were bad, wanted to avoid infections. Now I have an infected jaw bone.
I have stage IV breast cancer, metastisized in bones. A biopsy was done on the jawbone and was found to be tumor free but infected bone. I have been on Zometa for 2 1/2 yrs. I am worried of dead jaw from the meds.
Also had bad sinus infection on same side, full of puss, surgically drained, but the doctor doesn't think the sinus caused the jaw situation. I have never had sinus issues in the past.
I have been to several doctors that are passing the buck on how to treat...mouth very sore, open lesion to bone, seeping with infection, been on several antibiotics with no relief. ... Visitor from PA
Answer:
This is a complicated situation. I would suggest that you see an oral surgeon, preferably an MD/oral surgeon to evaluate this.
I am afraid that I agree that Zometa may be the reason for the bone problems. The University of Pittsburgh may be the place that could help you.
