Question:
Bone loss - lower denture: I have been told by a local dentist that my lower denture cannot be
relined because of too much bone loss.
What are my alternatives? My bottom denture just floats in my mouth without a lot of adhesive ... Visitor from WI
Answer:
Unfortunately, you don't have many options.
Loss of bone is an unfortunate sequelae or consequence of many years of denture wear. There are soft liners that can grip a denture sometimes.
Subperiosteal implants and grafting from areas such as your own hip can also be used to build up the jaw bone material. This is a difficult problem and I wish you luck.
Still other technologies exist involving the use of SimPlants by Materialise and NobelGuide technology available through Nobel Biocare. Look for articles on this website for more information.
