Question:
I'm 20 years old and have had braces on for almost 3 years. The expected time was only 18 to 24 months for correction of an overbite and overjet.
My bottom teeth are straight but my top teeth are not able to move all the way back on account of them hitting the brackets on the bottom. Why doesn't the orthodontist just take off the bottom braces so that the top teeth can move back?
Can I request that the bottom brackets are removed without refusal of the rest of the treatment? ...Visitor from PA
Answer:
Your problem is a common one. You should probably be on elastics (Right & Left), and I venture to guess that you are.
Hitting your braces on bottom will resolve soon. Just keep wearing the elastics. As far as removing your lower braces.....not going to happen. Wearing elastics necessitates the presence of upper & lower braces.
Hold on a little longer. Keep wearing your elastics. It will be worth the trouble in the end.
