Question:
Damon Self Ligating Braces and Periodontal Disease: I have perio problems with approximately 40% bone loss.
Is it possible for me to have self ligating (damon system) braces? ...Visitor from London England United Kingdom
Answer:
Your bone loss is a direct result from periodontal disease.
You absolutely cannot go through any orthodontic treatment until your periodontal disease is eliminated, regardless of bracket system used during treatment.
That means you should have no more than 2-3mm pockets around each tooth in the mouth.
If this has been accomplished you need to see your dentist at least every 3 months and be radiographed periodically while going through orthodontic treatment to make sure you are not experiencing any excessive
bone loss or root resorption.
