Question:
I have braces right now and I am getting them off in a couple months! But I was wondering if I will get squares on my teeth from the braces being there. I brush my teeth every morning and night I was just curious! If you could answer my question that would be wonderful! ...Visitor from CA
Answer:
Most of the time when ortho. brackets are placed on the front of teeth, the dentist only has to remove them and polish off the old cement.
The only time we see a problem with spots under the brackets (known as decalcification) is when the patient has done a poor job of cleaning the teeth while in ortho. and bacterial acids have attacked the tooth around the
brackets.
It sounds to me from what you have said that you have been taking fairly good care of your teeth while in bands. I wouldn't worry if I were
you. If you do have any areas of discoloration, these can be corrected often with minor composite fillings.
