Question:
False Teeth or get new Bridge? My old bridge came out a year ago and my teeth spread out.
Am I better off with getting false teeth instead of getting another bridge? ...Visitor from NY
Answer:
It is hard to answer your question with the limited information given. You do need to see a dentist and have a full evaluation in order to find a solution for your concern.
Teeth are a dynamic system, which means that they move. This movement is often very small however it may be large enough to have the new or old bridge not fit the teeth if it has been out of the mouth for any length of time.
When we get a new bridge back for the lab we will often have the person bite on it for a while top allow the teeth to move back to the position they were in at the time of the impression. This type of movement
is normal.
If the teeth have moved a lot, then there may be more concerning issues at hand, namely bacteria and disease possibilities.
The bacteria in your mouth basically do two things. One is eat holes in the teeth (cavities). This causes pain and disfigurement which is often noticed by the person. The other is that the bacteria unzip the
gums from the teeth (Periodontal Disease), and cause them to move, wiggle, become loose and fall out. This condition is often silent (no pain) until it is too late.
