Question:
3 Unit Bridge causes Itchy Gums: Why is it that I have a constant itchiness right after I had gum surgery and a permanent 3-way bridge placed in the upper front.
I've been suffering with this for 2 years, been to many dentists and no one knows. Should I see the periodontist again, and perhaps redoing the gum area there would help? ...Visitor from FL
Answer:
I would have the periodontist culture you for a possible yeast infection.
This is called candida albicans and can be treated with mycelex troches - perhaps your dentist could try this for you. If it is a fungus an antifungal may be needed as well.
Lastly, if the bridge impinges on your tissues you may be having an allergic reaction or a biologic width problem. Your dentist should be able to evaluate all the things I have mentioned.
