Bridges Bridgework FAQ Ask The Dentist Ron Briglia Question:
Removing 18 year old Bridge: I wanted to know if a bridge can be removed after 18 years.

My bridge is breaking and now I have swelling and pain around my bridge.

If it can be removed would it be wise to get another bridge in that spot? ...Visitor from NY

Answer:
It is difficult to answer your question without seeing your bridge or the x-rays of your bridge.

If you have swelling, soreness and pain around this 18 year old bridge then something is wrong and you should see a dentist for an evaluation.

Whether it can be replaced would depend on the health of the underlying teeth. If the teeth are badly decayed or you have a lot of periodontal bone loss around the roots, you make not be able to have the bridge remade.

A dentist can evaluate the condition of your bridge and supporting bone around your teeth to give you a more informed prognosis of these teeth. The dentist should be able also to give you different treatment options to restore your mouth.
