Endodontics - RCT File Breakage
Every dentist that does root canal treatment on a regular basis has had a file separate.
That means that the tip of the file separated from the main part of the file while instrumenting the canal. Usually when a file breaks or separates, it is due to a canal that is blocked and difficult to clean.
Your dentist may be perfectly competent but in these situations but it may be better to see a root canal specialist. Endodontists (specialists in root canal treatments and procedures) break files too but may have special ultrasonic files that may help with getting the broken file tip removed.
Sometimes the file does not have to be removed and the root canal treatment is still successful. It all depends on how bad the infection is inside the tooth and where in the canal the file broke off.
