Question:
I am 35 years old but still have two baby teeth (both incisors). The adult teeth meant to replace them are still in the roof of my mouth. This really has never been a problem, they were just slightly smaller than
they should be but it wasn't all that noticable.
Well the right one has broken in half and so now it is really a problem. What are my best options and how do I find the best dentist for the job. I had one dentist years ago suggest pulling the 2 small ones and having oral surgery and braces to position the adult teeth. I have also heard about "capping" or getting a porcelain veneer and just deal with cosmetics of this. It doesn't hurt at all... it just looks awful. ...Visitor from FL
Answer:
The traditional approach would be to put in a fixed bridge using the adult teeth for support. Implants are questionable because they'd run into the teeth still in the roof of your mouth.
Surgery and orthodontics can work very nicely, but will take many months or years to complete. Veneers require a strong tooth and the there may not be enough of the broken baby tooth to use, but it's worth a try.
Talk to a cosmetic dentist first about veneers or crowns for the baby tooth/teeth before you do any surgery.
