Broken Teeth FAQ Ask The Dentist Corinne Scalzitti Question:
Broken molars need extraction? I have 1 molar on each side of my mouth on the bottom part that are broken badly.

There is only about 1/2 a crown remaining on both of them. My nerve is exposed on both sides and I do feel pain which tells me the nerve is still alive.

Do I have to get them extracted or is there something else I could do? ...Visitor from NY

Answer:
I obviously can't tell what your situation is without seeing you and x-rays, but there is a chance that these teeth can be restored with root canals and crowns.

You may be able to get by without root canals. Pain doesn't necessarily mean that the nerve is exposed; it may be that there is decay near the nerve.

The sooner you seek treatment, the better the chance of a good outcome. I would hesitate to invest in a root canal and crown if the teeth are really badly broken down.

Let your dentist evaluate if this is worth the expense, or if your would be better off with implants.
