Question:
Two weeks ago I had part of a previously filled molar break off while brushing my teeth. My dentist packed it with some type of temporary filling as I was about to leave town on vacation. The filling only held for a day, but I have another appointment scheduled this week.

Today, while eating potato chips, part of another tooth broke off on the same area of a molar on the opposite side of my mouth. I have never had teeth break before, and find it very unnerving that two teeth would break within such a short time span.

Do you have any explanation for this? I have been taking calcium supplements for the past 3 months and wonder if that may have some effect. Visitor from WI

Answer:
I doubt it has anything to do with calcium. I would need to know more about your teeth (i.e. what kind of fillings you had in them, what the x-rays showed, how you chew, etc.) Your question cannot be answered without proper clinical examination. Your dentist should take his/her time and answer these questions for you. You obviously need a comprehensive, quality examination.
