GERD FAQ

Bulimia Dentistry Ask The Dentist Richard Winter Question:
Bulimia and Teeth Whitening: I am bulimic.

My teeth are still in good condition, at least superficially, but I would like them to be whiter. Is it safe to use whitening strips? ...Visitor from MN

Answer:
While I would love to give you an answer, that isn't possible without an exam and x-rays.

Are you still binging and purging? Is there damage to the existing enamel? If yes then you will irritate the teeth as the pores to the nerve will be closer to your oral cavity.

Whitening has been shown to be a safe procedure and I have no doubt it's effective but with somebody that has exposed their teeth to acid on and off for a period of time, you may remove more tooth structure or irritate your teeth.

See your dentist and ask them! If you are still Bulimic I would tell you not to. Good luck
