Question:
Cerec Restorations: Are there any situations that can't be done using Cerec?
What if you had a tooth made with an impression and needed to replace it - would Cerec work? (I have alot of trouble getting impressions made).
Also can you use it for rear molars and expect to have a good result or longevity? ... Visitor from PA
Answer:
Yes, in terms of percentages ... there is a small number of situations where Cerec might not be the best solution. It is not so much a CEREC limitation but rather a ceramic restoration limitation which would
apply to the CEREC in office or lab fabricated ceramic restoration.
Ceramic restorations are not the ideal choice for at patient with a deep bite or with a history of breaking ceramic restorations. The best alternative would be a gold/metal restoration that provides the endurance qualities that only metal can provide.
In most cases you can replace an existing restoration with a CEREC all ceramic crown, inlay or onlay with good results.
CEREC restoration components can last as long as a lab fabricated product. The key to long term success depends on many things:
- Good oral hygiene
- Quality of materials used by the dentist
- The skill of the dentist providing the service.
These factors also apply to lab fabricated restorations.
