Dr. McFarland is originally from Pittsburgh, PA and completed dental school at the University of Pittsburgh.

Following graduation he moved to Augusta and the Medical College of Georgia where he completed a two and one-half years residency in periodontics (gum disease) and prosthodontics (implants, crowns, bridges, and dentures).

He has served on the faculty of both the Medical College of Georgia and Emory University School of Dentistry.
