Video: Implants for Congenitally Missing Teeth
Tooth Replacement Choices
Question:
I am 25 years old and never had the satisfaction of having beautiful teeth. Due to some genetic mishap I am missing several teeth in my mouth. The ideal mouth should have 32 teeth, I have 22, leaving me without
10 teeth. 4 were pulled when I was 16. 6 never formed.
Due to this I am left with several spaces between me teeth. The bottom teeth are ok and not spaces really, but the top are spaced alot. I was wondering if braces are right for me. Can I have bridges? I can't afford implants, can I get braces before this to straighten and pull my teeth together? ...Visitor from FL
Answer:
Without having the benefit of x-rays and models of your teeth I can only rely or your description. So based upon that, I would have to say that doing orthodontics prior to having bridges made may be a good idea.
However, depending upon where the spaces are located and which teeth need to be used as a bridge abutment, it may be possible to correct the problem without braces. To determine if this is possible, is beyond the reaches of this forum. I would recommend that you consult a cosmetically oriented dentist.
