Video: Implants for Congenitally Missing Teeth
Tooth Replacement Choices
Question:
Congenital Missing Teeth: My ten year old son is missing 10 permanent teeth.
We have been told that there is nothing we can do until he reaches 18. Most of his missing teeth are in the front of his mouth. This is affecting how he chews, talks, and his self esteem.
Are there any options available for this young of a patient, before he is old enough for implants? ...Visitor from UT
Answer:
Without seeing his situation and x-rays I can only inform you of what I have done in the past.
We can make dental retainers with teeth on them for better looking smiles. We can bond teeth to make them look better and make bridges called Maryland bridges as a temporary option - these are cemented on and replaced periodically.
There may be options with orthodontic, fixed and/or fixed removeable appliances with teeth placed on an orthodontic wire and placed into slots on bands to add teeth to a childs arch.
In other words - lots of temporary options exist. If your dentist doesn't have these options in their training - see your local orthodontist to discuss the above options. I wish you luck..
