FAQ:  Crooked Teeth

Question:
As known, crooked teeth are caused because there is not enough place for them to align in the jaw.

But how is it possible that braces make the teeth straight?

Do they make the jaw wider/bigger so there is enough place for the teeth to align? ...Visitor from Netherlands

Answer:
Many people have crooked teeth because of faulty occlusion. Unusual bite relationships between the upper and lower jaws can cause teeth to move, tilt, rotate in an unpredictable fashion.

Not having enough room to erupt or grow normally, teeth can grow in with an unusual appearance.

All patients are different.... and can have a singular issue or a multiplicity of issues that cause crooked teeth.

Orthodontic appliances are used as needed to correct or control whatever unwanted events are occurring, with a focus on normalizing the overall health of the upper and lower jaws so adult dentition can develop with proper alignment and occlusion.
