Question:
Metal taste in mouth after crowns put in place: I had four crowns put on my four upper central teeth to reduce the large gap between the two middle teeth.

Since then I have a terrible taste of metal. What causes this? What can I do to rid myself of this bad taste? ...Visitor from WI

Answer:
I can't tell without x-rays and an exam.

That being said, there are a few possibilites:

First the crowns may not fit properly and you may have a gum problem or an issue with a cement gap between the crown and the tooth.

Secondly, you could have periodontal disease or a gum problem.

Thirdly, the dentist may have prepped the crowns too deep violating the space gums need to stay healthy.

Lastly, you could be hitting hard on the metal so you may have a taste resulting from your bite being off. Again, hard to tell without observing the situation.
