Crowns Ask The Dentist Edward Leventhal Question:
Temporary Crown Size: Should a temporary crown be the same size and shape as permanent?

Do the crowns attached with screw function as well as the ones that held by cement? My dentist couldn't make a good crown. He said that the implant was installed on a side with a wrong angle.

I came back to my Periodontist, he promised to make the crown himself. He put a temporary crown, it's very small, there is 4 mm distance to the next tooth. He says the permanent crown will be bigger, but there'd be a distance for a crown I'll have on #18.

Also there'd be no abutment; the crown will be screwed into the implant. ...Visitor from MD

Answer:
Temporary crowns should fill the space between the implant and each adjacent tooth.

Most implant dentists today screw an abutment into an implant and cement a crown over the abutment. The typical properties of an abutment are designed to work in harmony with certain characterstics of the crown, providing a superior cosmetic result.

The idea of implants is to restore form and function both functionally and esthetically.
