Question:
How long should a crown last? Five years ago I had a crown placed on a tooth. Each year the crown fell out. Again, this year the crown fell out and when I returned to the dentist he explained that the tooth was now decayed. Is this common? ...Visitor from MI

Answer:
If your crown fell out each year after being placed there was obviously a cavity that was not removed, to begin with! Most likely! Anyways, crowns should last a lifetime. I warranty all of my work for at least 5 years. I have crowns that look as beautiful today as they did when I placed them over 10 years ago. You need to find a more competent dentist and that's not easy to do today.
