Question:
Recently I did porcelain crowns using IPS Empress Crowns for my 6 upper front teeth and 6 lower front teeth. Unfortunately, the color (C3) chosen by my dentist did not meet my expectation.

Would you please advise if there is any means to increase the lightness of existing crown without removing them. After some years, would the porcelain crown become greyer like the aging effect on natural teeth?

Just in case in future, if I had enough money and want to replace these crowns with new ones of more satisfactory color, would the replacement procedure make further destructive impact on the teeth structure? ...Visitor from Hong Kong

Answer:
Ips Empress crowns can be very beautiful restoration whivch have extremely life-like caracteristics. The color of C3 is a very grey color which would match a tetracycline stained tooth. If the restoration was made to match the remaining teeth then this may serve the porpose.

In answer to your questions. 1st, Yes if you bleached your teeth you would see a slight lightening in the color of the teeth due to the teeth inside (under the crowns) would lighten and this lightened tooth would bleed through the crown. The result will often not be what you are expecting.

2nd, as the teeth age and if you are taking antibiotics the teeth may darken and appear mpre grey as you age.

3rd, if the crowns are removed properly than there would be little additional tooth removal to the underlying tooth.
