Question:
Pain in capped tooth that had root canal: I have tooth ache pain in a tooth that went through a root canal. I had a temporary cap for a year with no problem. Since I got the permanment cap fitted and placed I been having swelling and bleeding.

I went back to the dentist 3 times. Each time I was told it fits well and I should floss floss floss. Now my pain is so severe it feels like I did when I originally had the cavity before my root canal. What is going on? I want to rip this cap off. ...Visitor from NY

The type or quality of the pain such as sharp, dull constant, lingering, short and it's stimulus all are part of telling the story of the tooth.

Examples: a sharp pain upon bitting which does not linger may be a fractured tooth; a dull lingering pain on a top tooth which increaes when one blows his/her nose or eat may be an abcess or sinus condition and not a tooth related pain.

There are many reasons that the tooth is having pain now. There can be a small prematurity in the way that the teeth bite together which causes a constant insult to the tooth which will lead to pain. I recommend that you see a dentist for a true diagnosis.
