Question:
A little over two years ago I had a crown put on one of my back molars. The gum under it has now turned black and has gotten sensitive.

At first it was just under the tooth where the crown was. Now it is spreading to my other molars. I have flossed, and brushed my teeth, and chewed gum.

Is there anything else I can do to get my gums to turn the red color again. ...Visitor from AZ

Answer:
It sounds like the metal under casting of the crown has oxidized and turned black leaving you with this result.

It is also possible that your gum tissue does not like this particular metal alloy and is chronically irritated. I do not understand why this specific site would allow for color changes in the neighboring teeth.

I suggest you go back to your dentist and let them take a look. Oral hygiene is always your best friend in the interim. Good luck!
