Question:
New Crowns turning Gray: 2 months ago I had 8 DaVinci crowns put on and 4 of them have gray spots and all the crowns have a gray tone to them.

When I had my temps on I got a horrible bacteria infection, it was the worse case the Dentist ever had seen. He applied the medicine to kill the bacteria before putting on the permanent crowns.

He has never had this problem with crowns going gray, do you have any suggestions? ...Visitor from Ontario Canada

Answer:
I am going to try and answer your query even though I don't have enough clinical information. My answer is based more on speculation.

I don't know which type of DaVinci crowns you had. They could have been Empress or feldspathic porcelain. Empress, depending upon the type ingot chosen could give the teeth a gray cast.

On the other hand, since you say you had an infection, it is possible that bacteria leaked under the temporaries and discolored the teeth with a black stain. If that happened it could have easily been removed with hydrogen peroxide.

If it was not removed it would have had a graying effect. Now if the graying appeared after a while, then I would have to think there was a problem with the bonding procedure and there is leakage under the crowns.
