Question:
Removing Crowns: I got crowns put on the front 4 of my teeth. But I'm not satisfied with the color.

The dentist did not tell us it would be best to whiten my teeth before getting the permanent crowns put on. My question is, can you remove the crowns to get others? ...Visitor from FL

Answer:
Yes the crowns can be removed. In order to prevent damage to the teeth they need to be sectioned and removed. The crowns end up being destroyed.

When you whiten your teeth allow the color to stabilize for several weeks after you have finished to prevent the crowns being lighter than the natural teeth.

After you have a stable shade, and the crowns are re-made, monitor the natural teeth and lighten them as necessary to maintain the appropriate shade.

Another more predictable option is to place very thin veneers on the teeth adjacent to the crowns. This will allow a more predictable result.
