Dentists Ask Dentists - Problem Dentistry Corinne Scalzitti Question:
Topic: Broken RCT File
My Ni-Ti file got separated in the apical third of a curved canal while cleaning.

Infection was clear and there was no pain before the separation of file. I tried to retrieve the file but it was no use.

Will it cause any impact on the prognosis? ...Dentist from India

Answer:
Sounds like you have a clean canal and the broken file will act as part of the filler for the canal.

As long as the tooth is not perforated, I think that it should be all right.

I am far from an expert in endo, but think that I would fill as usual and hope that I can get gutta percha around the broken file to help seal the apex.
