Dentists Ask Dentists - Problem Dentistry Richard Winter Question:
Topic: Prosthodontics
I am taking the A.D.E.X. Where does the heavy chamfer/shoulder margin extend proximally on the PVC prep? ...Dentist from Missouri

Answer:
A surprising question as this should have been drilled into you - pardon the pun.

You extend shoulders or chamfers interproximally around the tooth following the contours of the gingiva without invading biological width.

You follow contours of the gum tissue while remaining equigingival or slightly subgingival depending on smile line, old restoration placement and bone level. See articles by Frank Spear, Harold Shavell, Bill Strupp etc.
