Question:
Tight Dentures over Implants: My bottom denture was fitted over dental implants.
I don't have any bone in rest of mouth.
The dentures have been too tight and when I take them out, my gums throb terribly. One of the abutments digs into my bottom gum and I am in agony if I take the denture out.
I don't know where to go or what to do because no dentist seems able to fix it. Is there a hopital where I could go or any solution to this problem? ...Visitor from NY
Answer:
Many times after implant placement there can be a tendency for tissue to want to overgrow the implants slightly.
In most cases a laser can be utilized to sculpt the tissue. The great thing about a laser is that it will not zap metal like an electrosurgical unit.
The laser only recognizes soft tissue when programmed and will only affect the tissue. If your denture is impinging the gum it may be irritating the gum tissue and causing some inflamation.
In these situations the internal aspect of the denture is relieved and tissue permitted to heal. If it does not go away, then it is contoured with the laser. Please let me know if you need further assistance.
