Question:
A few days ago I had 6 teeth removed (upper) and a received a new denture. My regular dentist is not licensed to give anesthesia, so I went to another dentist to be put to sleep. I went immediately to my regular dentist for an adjustment.

The next day, I experienced more discomfort and visited my regular dentist. As we were trying to remove the denture, I experienced pain. He left the denture in and recommended that I remove it later and rinse with salt water. Now, the denture is out and I cannot get it back in. My regular dentist will not be in the office for several days. What what should I do? ...Carol in MD

Answer:
Carol, the reason he wanted you to keep the denture in is to keep swelling down which is causing you to not be able to put the denture back. Take antibiotics and 3 Advils every 8 hours to get the swelling down. Also rinse with ice water and try to get the denture back in. It may hurt a little, but if you try harder it shold go back in. Try putting it in at an angle, front first then the back.
