Question:
My father is 87 and has Alzheimer's. He lost his lower dentures and I fear it could happen with his uppers. Can new upper dentures be made from a mold of his current uppers's?

He cannot sit thru a visit and I am afraid he may lose the only dentures he has left so I want to be prepared for that possibility? ...Visitor from NC

Answer:
I am sorry that you are dealing with this problem. It is a difficult task at best.

The answer to your question is yes it is possible to "duplicate the denture." You can also have the name put in the side of the denture. Sometimes you can have a 1 visit complete (top and bottom) denture done. If you can find someone to do that. It might be the best for you. But you have to be the judge.

One question I always ask family members is to think about what the reasons are for doing what you want to do here. If it is so he can eat better then this may be a good idea. If it is for his dignity then that is a good idea. If it is for his comfort that is a good idea. If it is so you feel better when you visit that is a good idea too. Maybe it is a combination of all the above. Best of luck.
