Question:
Top Denture: When I first got my top denture about 7 years ago, it looked very natural but when I smile now, it looks phony and the teeth don't come down far enough from my lip to look good. I've never had them relined. Would relining them make my smile more natural looking? ... Visitor from NY
Answer:
The concern that you have with the aesthetics of the denture is valid. What is occurring is that the bone which used to hold the teeth is reabsorbing, and is not giving the lip support any longer.
A reline may help the condition however you may wish to have a new denture made. Due to the loss of bone dentures should be remade about every ten years.
