Question:
Adhesive Not Working: A year ago I got a full lower plate put in. My dentist said it would take some time to get used to.
This I understand, but a year later and even though I use an adhesive on my lower plate they still pop up when I drink from a straw or yawn.
Also I think there is too much gum on my lower plate which is not letting the adhesive make contact with my natural gum. Is this possiable and what can I do about this? ... Visitor from DE
Answer:
Have your dentist evaluate these concerns. If the flanges on the tongue side of the denture are too long, dentures may pop up very easily.
I would ask your dentist if you are a candidate for implants, mini-implants, bar
overdentures, etc. as these will help solve your problem.
Lower dentures are floating prostheses that have the tongue, muscles in the floor of your mouth and cheeks that all want to dislodge it. On top of this, it is on a moving jaw bone!
Soft liners may help your situation and would be worth trying. Implant anchors are the premium treatment for overcoming this problem.
