Mini Implant Surgery Description

Dentures or Implants? Ask The Dentist Corinne Scalzitti Question:
Denture Palate: I am wondering if when you get the mini implants do you still need to have the roof of your mouth covered by the palate of the bridge or can the part that covers your palate of your mouth be eliminated? ... Visitor from MT

Answer:
While some dentists do palateless upper dentures on patients with mini-dental implant support, I have found that bone in women is generally not hard enough to omit the palatal support, even with 6 mini-dental implants. I do use them in women with upper dentures and include the palate and they are very comfortable and stable.

If you have your heart set on a denture with no palate, 4 conventional implants may serve you well. They are more expensive than the minis, but much more reliable for this situation.

There are other conventional implant configurations for upper dentures, but most are more expensive and complex than 4 implants with an upper palateless denture.
