Question:
Partials cause teeth to rot: I am 26 years old.
A little over 3 years ago I had all but 6 teeth removed. I got a full upper denture and lower partial. The lower partial caused my lower teeth to begin to rot away.
I would like to get the remaining teeth removed and full dental implants. Would that be a good idea or should I just get dentures once again? I hate them and I feel so insecure with them. ... Visitor from WV
Answer:
Implant suppoirted fixed bridgework is like having a new natural set of teeth.
Patients who have them feel they have a new lease on life. The major downside is the expense. Implant supported fixed bridgework for the upper and lower arches can cost a patient $50,000 or more. When done correctly the results are a totally natural smile with totally natural chewing function.
Moving to the more economical end of treatment choices, while still providing good comfort, esthetics and chewing function we recommend standard full upper and lower dentures with the lower denture secured by three implants or more, for a fraction of the cost for implant supported bridgework.
