Question:
I am 52 years old. Upper denture x 6 years, lower x 2 yrs. I am more than healthy enough for dental surgery.
1. Are Dental implants and lupus mutually exclusive?
2. Or could i get a prosthetic that fits over the bone to stabilize the denture.? (I just love the way the bone in the lower jaw just seemed to
disappear).
3. Is there a line of denture, or way to make the denture nicer - perhaps a way to pay more and actually get something of better quality. My
last doc did a wonderful job, but its time for a different fit and I want
to know what my options could be. ...Gloria in WI
Answer:
Gloria, you need to have a physical and blood work done to determine what is
happening with your lupus. You could have some problems with the implants.
They may not integrate.
I wish I could tell your story to all the patients that think dentures are the answer. You lower jaw will continue to shrink.
Only an oral surgeon should treat you with your lupus. Get a consultation
with one, as well as your physician. The nicest dentures nowadays are made
with IPN teeth and Lucitone acrylic.
It's really up to the lab techinicians to turn out a wonderful product, so you may want to research labs in your area for quality and talk to your dentist about your expectations. Your main goal, however, is to stabilize the lower jaw.
