Video: Diabetes and Gum Disease
Question:
Diabetes and Dental Implants: I have had diabetes for about 3 years.
Should I be concerned for getting implants? My top upper teeth are loose. The dentist said they need to be pulled out.
Are implants the solution? What is the most important thing to know about the dentist, for him to move forward with this procedure? What are the most important questions to ask? ...Visitor from CA
Answer:
Implants require good health and jaw bone.
Diabetics can have implants but require closer monitoring by the dentist. The dentist needs to evaluate your overall health, amount of jaw bone remaining, the type of occlusion and a plan as to how well implants function in the type of occlusion for each patient.
Does the patient grind their teeth? Do they still have gum disease in other areas of their mouth? etc.
Dental implants work very well but the key to your treatment is the dentist you choose.
