FAQ:  Diastema

Question:
I read your info on tooth gaps and I wanted to know what you thought about using rubberbands called Teeth Effect Band that is advertised on the internet to close small gaps.

Do you think bands wrapped around the front teeth can close a gap and do you think it is safe? ...Visitor from Hawaii

Answer:
Any tooth that moves from a rubber band will move right back unless you keep the rubber band in 24/7 or have some other permanent fixture, appliance or restoration that maintains this new spacing.

If your issue is so small that you think a rubber band can resolve it, I highly recommend a consultation with an orthodontist. Most orthodontists will see a patient for five or ten minutes for a quickie, complimentary exam to discuss the potential benefits of braces, duration, costs and expectations.

I believe you may have a situation that could be easily and permanently corrected through professional care. Good luck!
