Question:
I've had this pain for 8yrs. X-rays and Mri's don't show anything. The pain starts in the gum area above and behind the second to the last upper left molar. It feels slightly swollen. The pain gradually goes to my temple area and as the pain increases the muscles on the left side of my face hurt also areas in the front and back of my neck. It's as if the pain travels.
When I press on the painful areas on my face or neck it seems to travel to the gum area and stop the pain temporarily. I am in pain every day. I take 1600mg. of neurotin a day it helps 30% of the pain. Drs. don't know what is wrong. Do you have any suggestions? There has to be an answer to this pain. Something is wrong. ...Visitor from PA
Answer:
Something has to show on the MRI or x-rays. Maybe you're not getting the correct tests. Have your doctor order tomogram and MRIs of you TMJoints and have an oral surgeon look at those. Also, visit an ENT surgeon in your area for a second opinion. I would like to see those tests, because we can
always find a cause of the pain. It may not be coming from the immediate area, but something else (possibly inside the joint) which is causing the pain. Read the file that was sent to you for more help.
