Question:
Traditional Braces Didn't Work: I have an overbite. My front and bottom teeth seem to jut forward. The bottom teeth aren't that bad but the top makes me self-conscious. My top teeth do not touch my bottom teeth at all.
I'm nineteen years old and I've had braces, though they don't seem to have worked very well. I would like an alternative to braces for aesthetic reasons.
My question is: Are braces a definite treatment procedure or will something more drastic like surgery be required also, now that I'm nearly out of my teens? ... Visitor from NY
Answer:
Depending upon the shade of the veneers it may be possible to bond the lower teeth and have them look reasonably close to the veneers.
Fortunately, when people look at you they don't see your bottom teeth and top teeth at the same time. Usually when you smile people see your top teeth.
When you speak they will usually see your bottom teeth.
So as a temporary measure, bonding the bottom would be fine. I say temporarily, because in the long run you are going to want to have the bottom teeth done as well so that you have porcelain functioning against porcelain.
Porcelain is harder than enamel and over a period of time the lower teeth will wear more against the porcelain.
