FAQ:  Baby Teeth

  • Baby teeth extractions: I took my 6 year old son to the dentist with loose upper incisors. The dentist removed both teeth. One tooth appears to have a long root, the other appears to have broken root. If I look at his gum, I see a small white thing, I guess the broken root. Should I be worried about it or will it be pushed down by the permanent teeth? ... Visitor from Kenya     (answer)

  • Loose baby tooth: I am 26 years old and have a baby tooth which is wobbly. I went to the dentist who told me my tooth is grade 2. What does this mean and could it come out soon? ... Visitor from UK     (answer)

  • Baby teeth not falling out: My daughter has just turned 8 and she has only lost her 2 front lower teeth when she was 7! Should I take her to a dentist for an xray or is it normal that her upper baby teeth have not become loose yet? As a baby, her baby teeth came in very late as well. ... • Loose baby tooth partially cracked: My son is 11 years old and his 1st molar baby tooth on the bottom recently became loose. We were away on vacation and he bit into a hamburger and he realized part of the loose molar chipped off. Most of the baby tooth remains and is not loose enough for us to pull. I contacted his dentist and he is away and can not see my son until 5 more days. That would be a total of 10 days that the tooth will be this way. My son is not in pain and it is not bleeding. It bled slightly when the pieces broke off but stopped quickly. He has been brushing as normal and I have told him to keep that area clean without brushing too hard. Where the baby tooth molar chipped and broke off I think I am seeing the enamel of the permanent tooth. His teeth have all been healthy, never any cavities and he has lost 9 baby teeth. He currently has 3 loose baby teeth that I know of counting this one molar. I am concerned about any infection occurring or if it could occur while we wait another 5 days for the dentist to check him. Any feedback is appreciated about if I should have him checked by another dentist sooner. ... Visitor from NC     (answer)

  • Impacted tooth exposure: Today I got my last baby tooth pulled out at age 15. My dentist says I'll need braces and a chain. But my adult tooth is not exposed, it's still in my gums. So does that mean he'll have to cut my gums to expose a part of my tooth for the chain to latch onto? ... Visitor from San Jose     (answer)

  • I am 36 years old and my upper baby tooth is wiggling and is driving my crazy! It does hurt a bit. The other two baby teeth are fine. Is there any way that they can just screwed in tight? My dentist estimated that a fake tooth would cost 3000 dollars that I don't have. They said that they would have to graft bone from the upper jaw. Are there any other options? ... Visitor from Arcade     (answer)

  • Why has my tooth stopped growing on the top right? It is yellow in color but doesn't seem to be decayed or rotting. It is very small and it hurts. ... Visitor from IN     (answer)

  • Adults who have only baby teeth: I am looking for a dentist and I am having trouble finding one who is an expert in my condition. Can you tell me what kind of specialty would best serve me. I am 19 years old and I have only baby teeth, there are no adult teeth. Most dentists say that they are not sure what to do, but they have lots of expansive ideas. Any suggestions for me? ... Visitor from Calgary Canada     (answer)

  • Still have a baby tooth at age 22: I'm 22 and have an embarassing problem. I still have a baby tooth. It is the second tooth from one of my front teeth. I was told that the adult tooth is laying sideways in the gum and my baby tooth is not loose at all. I feel hopeless. What can be done? I'm scared to have a gaping hole when I talk if the tooth has to be pulled. What can be done? How much would it cost to have this fixed? ... Visitor from PA     (answer)
