  • I'm 20 years old and have had braces on for almost 3 years. The expected time was only 18 to 24 months for correction of an overbite and overjet. My bottom teeth are straight but my top teeth are not able to move all the way back on account of them hitting the brackets on the bottom. Why doesn't the orthodontist just take off the bottom braces so that the top teeth can move back? Can I request that the bottom brackets are removed without refusal of the rest of the treatment? ...Visitor from PA     (answer)

  • Braces and Steroids: I'm 19 years old and I've had Braces for 5 years. The predicted time plan was 2 years. I have severe asthma and take oral cortisone steriods and have developed osteoporosis from it. I was wondering if this might have something to do with how fast my teeth are moving. ...Visitor from NC     (answer)

  • Braces - Sores I have had braces for over 2 years and have wires and brackets that rub against the inside of my cheek, causing open sores. I do not like using wax, so I have been using things like oragel and taking ibuprofen. It's been a few weeks since my last visit to the orthodontist and now my cheek is quite swollen. Two of the sores are kind of yellow. When I'm eating I have a stinging in my cheek. Afterwards it appears that the yellow color is gone but then about an hour or so later it returns. I called my orthodontist and he doesn't have a license to prescibe antibiotics. Can you tell me what I should do? ...Visitor from TX     (answer)

  • Braces change facial features? My orthodontist said that I should wear braces. I have a bad bite and this is causing jaw problems. My question is, will the after result change the appearance of my lips or other facial features? I wouldn't want my lips to change from full to thin. ...Visitor from CA     (answer)

  • Fast Methods For Teeth Correction: All my other teeth are fine, except my canines, they have grown a bit outward. I really do not have the patience of waiting 3 yrs for braces to do their job. Is surgery a possibility? Or any other method to straighten the teeth. ...Visitor from CA     (answer)

  • Braces without Molars? I am 40 something years old and I am interested in improving my smile. However, I had chemotherapy five years ago and because of this three of my molars cracked away right down to the gum line. My question is: Am I a candidate for braces even though I have three missing molars? ...Visitor from CA     (answer)

  • Braces causing loose teeth: I have had braces for about 5 months now. When I was geting my teeth checked my front left tooth is really loose. I can move it with my tongue. • Braces breaking: My son had braces put on 2 months ago. His braces have broken off 4 times; where the bracket comes off the tooth. What would cause this and what do you recommend?
